Come see the works of long standing New York artist, Joseph Piccillo. Renowned for his large-scale charcoal renderings, Piccillo is best know for his powerful rearing and running horses that seem to burst the bounds of the canvas. In an age of easy mechanical reproductions, there is something magical in his sheer technical mastery of drawing. Piccillo has been investigating different aspects of the drawing medium since the early 1970′s, utilizing graphite, charcoal, and mixed media. Through the years, he has created a personal vocabulary of imagery-dancers, divers, aircraft, portraits, as well as horses – all playing a strong role in the power of his art as he continues to excel in pushing the boundaries of possibility in drawing.
Joseph Piccillo’s work is widely collected and is in numerous museum collections, including New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
